AI Citation Gaps
Pages ChatGPT doesn't cite for prompts they should win, ranked on their own scale.
If you use Citations, the Opportunities page also shows AI citation gaps: pages that ChatGPT doesn't cite when it answers the prompts those pages were built for.
Where to find them
On Opportunities, choose AI Citation Gaps in the Show filter. When you have any, a short banner above the regular list links there too.
How they're ranked
Each page gets a score from 0 to 100, based on three things for every not-cited prompt anchored to it:
- Demand: the search impressions behind the prompt. Custom prompts with no impressions count as an average prompt.
- Winnability: what ChatGPT searched for before answering. Open searches about the topic itself score highest; searches that name a specific competitor or institution (Mayo Clinic, the APA) score lowest, because ChatGPT has already decided where to look. See Working Citation Gaps for the tiers.
- Consistency: how often you're missing. Never cited across recent scans scores higher than cited sometimes.
Pages where ChatGPT consistently searches for your brand by name and still cites someone else are pinned to the top. That usually points to a page or indexing problem rather than missing content. A provisional badge (based on only a few runs) counts for less and isn't pinned.
The score is on its own scale. It isn't comparable to the SEO opportunity score, and citation gaps don't appear in the regular ranked list.
Working a gap
Click Work this gap to open the prompt on the Citations page, where Analyze & Recommend compares your page against the site that was cited instead. If an optimization already exists for the prompt, the button links to it.
Older scans
What ChatGPT searched for is recorded from mid-September 2026 onward. Prompts from earlier scans are ranked by who got cited instead, until the next scan fills in the searches.
